Sainath
lit an ever-burning holy fire at Dwarakamayi. This is known as "Dhuni".
Baba used to distribute the sacred ash collected from it to the
devotees. At times He would joyously sing "O Kalyana Rama!
Come, do bring sacks full of sacred ash". The tree, raises
from the lap of Mother Earth, branches out, bears fruits and flowers,
serves the society and at last turns into log of wood to ultimately
get reduced to the sacred ash to reach the blessed hands of Baba.
Ash symbolizes sacrifice. Wherever we are born and however we may
live, one day we would finally be absorbed into the five elements.
The ash denotes that the universe is an illusion; whereas, the soul
is imperishable. The ordinary ash turned into a miracle medicine
by a mere touch of Sai Baba. And the ash received by the devotees
from Baba's hand worked incredible miracles and revealed Sai as
Lord Siva.
The nephew of a doctor suffering from cancerous tumour, Chandorkar's
daughter bearing severe labour pains, Dr. Pillay writhing in pain
caused by guinea worms were all healed by Baba's sacred ash. Baba's
sacred ash became a Big Bestower of Boons. On the death anniversary
of Balaji, several relatives were served with unlimited food sanctified
by the sacred ash given by Baba. Even today there are devotees who
are living in health, plenty and peace by partaking the sacred ash,
udhi, daily.
